Family Prayers by William Wilberforce
There is always something about an antiquarian book that will make it of some interest. Whether that is the edition, the scarcity of the book, the binding or the provenance. For me this book's interest lies in the provenance.
'Family Prayers' was published posthumously by the author's son and is here inscribed by him to Henry Peter Brougham, who was pall bearer at William Wilberforce's funeral and fellow abolitionist. What makes this book particularly special is that Henry Peter Brougham was also the Lord Chancellor when the 1833 Abolition of Slavery Act was passed. William Wilberforce unfortunately died a month before.
For me this is a rare link between two great men who campaigned for the abolition of slavery.
